Different types of snowmobile racing

There several types of snowmobile racing. The distinguishing mark between the different races is the type of surface on which the participants run.

The snowmobile can move snow, of course, but also on grass or ice.

The first snowmobile races were organized in the mid-1960's, in northern Minesota.

Snowmobile races are very popular. 30,000 spectators applause the racers during the World ChampionShip Snowmobile Derby in Eagle River each year.

The Midwest International Racing Association (MIRA), the Canadian Snowmobile Racing Association (CSRA) and International Snowmobile Racing (ISR) are organisations that sanctions races.

• Wapsipinicon Snowmobile Association The Wapsipinicon Snowmobile Association (WSA), is a non-profit snowmobile club based in Buchanan County, Iowa. The club hosts the WSA 500.

• Wisconsin Kids Snowmobile Racing AssociationSponsors racing throughout Wisconsin every Sunday from the end of December through March. Racing is offered to children from ages 4-13.
