August 09 News Letter
Dear Friends,
It has been an exciting and productive summer. The 2009/2010 schedule is close to completion and looks like it should be our best season yet. We have been working on a few ideas to help improve our events and we would like to share them with you.
•Advisory Board We are considering forming an advisory Board for each of our circuits to help improve our sport. There would be one for Ice Ovals and one for Hill Cross and Hill Drags. Members would come from each of these circuits and either be a team owner, team mgr or parent and will meet formally 4 times per year. We are seeking volunteers for this opportunity who are positive, objective, safety minded and above all, has the best interest of the sport in mind.
So, we are asking for names of people who are currently involved in WSA Racing and would be willing to serve in an advising capacity to make our sport better. Who we are looking for are people who can be objective and positive. They must be able to see the whole picture and suggest things that will be for the good of everyone, not suggestions that will only benefit a few. We want people that are sincerely concerned for our sport and the people in it.
Time commitment The Advisory Board would meet formally 4 times per year. Once at Hay Days Once during the first race weekend Once during the middle of the season Once at the Year end Banquet. It may meet informally at other times depending on the need.
Whats new for this Season?
1)TV - As most of you know, we have been developing a TV show for WSA Racing for the last two years. We have a strong belief that television coverage, of our racing, is the way to bring us to the next level. It has not been easy and there have been some mistakes made and a learning curve to go thru, (like having a schedule of where and when before the season, not after). However, we feel that most of those issues have been ironed out and we will be ready to use television to everyones advantage. This is an added benefit that no one has been asked to pay for, except us.
2)TV The new season brings new opportunities for some face time on TV (and who doesnt like that love that?) and this season will be even better. We have been working hard for the last two seasons to put on a great show and we are really starting to hit our stride.
•TV statistics for last season. Our show was on 82 TV affiliates in every major market in the United States. Each show was in 50 Million Households per episode and there were 13 episodes. This is way more exposure than any other snowmobile race organization.
•TV 2009-10 season. Number of affiliates should increase to 90-100 and number of households to 65-75 million per episode or a Billion households for the season. In addition, the WSA Race show will go to an additional 10 million HHS in Great Britain which includes England, Scotland and Ireland and possibly Europe and North Africa after that. Pretty exciting.
•You may ask What good does this do me as a racer? It means that our sport is being widely accepted, which will enable us/you to get better sponsorships.
3)New Events Because of TV, we hope to do the following for this season:
•Have one of the hottest bands in the Midwest go on tour with us and play at each venue Saturday, immediately after the conclusion of racing. Our hope is that this will draw more people to our event.
• Give aways We hope to be able to give away something of significant value to any one with a wrist band must be present to win and includes all racers, crew, family and spectators. If any of you has a sponsor that would like to participate in this please contact us. We could give them tremendous exposure. We hope that this will draw more spectators.
• King of the Hill Anyone who has won a King of the Hill class the previous weekend, will have a free pit pass for the following weekend.
4) Hill Cross and Hill Drags We have been asked to participate in an East Versus West Hill Cross/ Hill Drag event out west after our season is over. Please give us your thoughts on this. The following year they would come here to Minnesota.
In summary, it is all pretty exciting and please if you have any names for the advisory boards and reasons why you feel they would be good at being a member. Feel free to choose yourself if you are interested.
Please submit all information on any of this newsletter to Wally_ScheerMadness.com
Sincerely yours,
WSA Racing
Wally, Jean, Matt and Nick
